| It wasn't my
plan to be in Ohio. It just sort of worked out that way.
And, when I landed the only elementary teaching position available in
the district that year, I figured it was where I was supposed to be.
One of the nicest things about teaching in a small town was how close
everything was. We took lots of walking field trips to the local
bookstore, fire station, parks, and especially the creek.
A valuable resource in elementary is the parents. I had them come to my room to help with experiments. (I never would have survived the decomposition one without three extra adults.) But, my greatest contact was the father who made professional videos. He brought in $50,000 worth of equipment to tape the Silly Jesse Raphael show, our talk show that featured famous explorers and commercials advertising the New World.
