Symbolic Art with Phillip Martin
Lesson Plan

We have all heard people say, "I can only draw stick figures."  (Of course, you yourself never said that!) Well, in this lesson, that's all we do.  We draw extremely simplified picture. They aren't quite Stone Age people on cave walls, but detail, texture, and a whole lot of worry are thrown out the window.

I love to introduce kids to Keith Haring. He's world famous and it kind of boggles the mind of the kids that they can draw as well as someone so famous. And, they can! Following the example of Keith Haring, we painted stick figures in a variety of favorite activities.  It was not as easy as the students first expected. But, as usual, the results were so bold and colorful.
