Egyptian Paper

.
Tied into the study of ancient Egypt, students research authentic Egyptian art for this project.  Strips of paper are applied to cardboard with a paper maché solution.  Then, paint is mixed to match papyrus colors and applied across the grain of the paper.  It gives an effect of real papyrus.  Using a combination of water color pencils, colored pencils, water colors, and acrylic paint, students finally replicate the Egyptian art.

It takes a long time to complete this project.  And, while the majority of the class work on their Egypt projects, I individually work with students in making recycled paper.  Students experiment with color, glitter, leaves, and yarn to make a piece of paper which eventually are used as the backing for calendars.
