Mosaics with Phillip Martin
Lesson Plan

Mosaics have been around for centuries and can be made from stone, glass, ceramics and lots of other materials. Unlike the ancient Greeks or Romans, I create mosaics from recycled paper bits and paper mache. They might not be as intricate as ancient Islamic mosaics in Istanbul, Turkey, or Alhambra, Spain, but a lot of careful detail goes into the work.

To make the mosaic look good, space the tiles evenly. In addition, you can't have any pieces overlap. On occasion, I have those wonderful artists who use pieces so small that they need safety pins to position the pieces properly. I love that kind of dedication and patience.
