Grid Drawing with Phillip Martin

One key for anyone in the art room is to realize that a lot of art can be done well if you learn some basic steps.  In this activity, grids are used to reproduce pictures they found in magazines.  If kids were simply asked to draw the picture, it could have been too overwhelming.  However, when asked to draw it just one small square at a time, it becomes a manageable task.   The drawings are surprisingly accurate.

I must admit that I've had more success with this activity with Middle School and High School Students. However, it is possible to successfully do this with younger students if you have a simple design for them to replicate.
