Shapes and Patterns

.
Primary students experience a lot of activities with shapes and patterns.  Since they understand what rhythm means in music class, it is easy to grasp the concept in art.  We use color, shapes, and up to eight different kinds of lines to create patterns.

When given a little direction and a lot of freedom, children never cease to surprise me.  I ask children to create an object using squares, triangles, and circles.  The detail that a first graders put into his space craft amazed me.
