There is quite a bit of freedom when working with collages.  Sometimes, my artists want to take the traditional route and cut out magazine pictures according to a selected theme.  In the process, they learn that it isn't as easy to arrange the photos as they first supposed. 

Other artists select pictures from magazines for their colors and create a collage that is kind of like a mosaic.  Actual papyrus for the sand colors gives a very interesting texture to this Egyptian piece.

I knew I had a great activity for the class when I heard one child say, "This is the best piece of art I've ever made in my life!"
