Drawing with Phillip Martin
Lesson Plan

I am not really much of a painter. I like to draw. I don't know why it took me so long to come up with this lesson. It is certainly one of my favorites. And, truth be told, it was inspired by my trip to Namibia to both local schools and the local art store.

One of my secrets that I love to share is coloring things twice. I love to work with colored pencils, and when you color things twice, it makes all the difference in the world. Of course, you still need to stay in the lines, color in the same direction, and not press too hard.

However, I found Ann Kullberg's Colored Pencil Portraits, Step by Step at the art store in Windhoek, Namibia, and coloring will never be the same. She colors things up too fifteen times! Naturally, in this lesson students work with colored pencils. They also work with drawing pencils and ball point pens.
