Lesson Plan

This is the kind of activity that an art teacher really loves.  It introduces so much information to the artists.  To begin the project, draw a contour still life.  Upon completion, the illustration is divided into five sections.  Silly me.  I imagined the simple use pie wedges.  Many of my artists create much more interesting divisions.

In each of the five sections, the rendering of the still life is done in a different artistic style.  The project gets its name from these five selected "isms" -- Realism, Surrealism, Pointillism, Cubism, and Impressionism.

There are wonderful moments for an art teacher when you hear classroom discussion about art and different styles in their regular conversation. They are rare and glorious -- and they happen with this activity.
