My artists had a lot more fun with Illuminated Manuscripts than they first imagined.  The final pieces were to have the "look" of and old manuscript, but the text could be of their own choosing.  Students selected famous quotes, lyrics from favorite songs, and lines from a play in which they were involved. 

My personal favorite was a message directed to parents who didn't like the volume of their child's music.  "If thy music be too loud, thou art too old."I told the student that one day she, too, would be that old.  Of course, she thought that was impossible.
