Pen and Ink with Phillip Martin
Lesson Plan

Working with ink has its challenges, but the results can be stunning. The media lends itself to many subjects. One of my favorite themes is ancient China.

This project took my artists by surprise. They had no idea that they would do as well as they did. (Honestly, neither did I.) Before the final results were accomplished, a lot of class time was needed to practice different techniques with the pen. This includes hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, and whirling. Then, for their final project, the artists could use any or a variety of the techniques. The results were so stunning! (Even if I do say so myself.)
