SUEZ CANAL xxxx I crossed the historic Suez Canal on my travels between Israel and Egypt. Before entering the barge, soldiers told tourists in no uncertain terms that it was a military post and no photos were allowed to be taken.xxOf course, some people -- not me -- tried and were quickly called down and stopped.xxI wondered how could anyone put a military post in a spot where every normal tourist would want to take a photograph?

Not to be stopped by the whims of politicians and soldiers, I smugly took my photo as soon as we were in the middle of the canal, with no soldiers in sight.
