The STATUE of LIBERTY... I realised long ago that a shorter to do list was always easier than a long one. On one day, I only wanted to see the Statue of Liberty. It was a good thing that it was the only thing I wanted to do. From start to finish, it took four hours to get up to the top. But, the crowd and entertainers in the midst were part of the fun. And, it was so interesting to see the statue from the inside out. Now, a helpful hint when you expect long lines, travel with a book in your pocket.

Unfortunately, in the post 9/11 world, the inside of the statue is no longer available for the public. You can only walk around the pedastal. Lots of people do it. I was just as happy to skip the lines and walk around the base of the statue. And, if you go to Liberty Island, be sure to do it in the morning. Lines in the afternoon are unbelievable!
