A real Chinese flavor.

KUCHING, SARAWAK  Indonesia owned the southern part of Borneo.  Malaysia had two states, Sabah in the north and Sarawak on the west coast.  Kuching, the most beautiful of the major places I stayed on the island, had a strong Chinese influence with a lot of temples scattered around.

They developed the riverside into a beautiful walk for about a mile.  It was brick lined and dotted with gazebos, cafes, and fountains.  It wasn't what I expected.  And, Kuching also had the best souvenirs that I found in Borneo.
