HOI AN and MY SON I
enjoyed Hoi An as a base for three days but the little French town lost its charm in that
amount of time. It was such a tourist trap. Fortunately, I left for a day trip
to see the ruins at My Son. It was an experience and a half just getting
there. First I rented a car for two and a half hours, bumping and tossing the whole
way. From there I was motorcycled to a ferry. After the ferry I was terribly
motorcycled at the risk of my life to the ruins. The setting was more spectacular
than the ruins. It was in a valley surrounded by mountain greenery. I didn't
stay as long as I should have considering the effort it took to get there. The
process was repeated in reverse as I returned to Hoi An.
