I thought Teacher's Day in Gjirokaster meant a day of no school. There was school but there were no classes. Kids were at school in force to help with mural number three. The plan was for me to paint the faces for the kids and then leave. But, this third mural was for the class with the oldest kids in the school. They were the main group of painters. And, once again, they had to help. So, by the time we left, the mural was halfway painted.

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away." The experience at Urani Rumbo School was certainly one of those moments.

Departure from Gjirokaster was delayed because there was an honorary reception to decicate the murals. All kinds of speeches were made. And, most of it was in Albanian. But, it was clear everyone was excited. The director said that all of the photos of the event were on the school's Facebook page. Students were busy throughout the week writing messages. They even wrote to friends at different schools, telling them something special happened at Urani Rumbo and they had to come see.

I also had to give a brief speech. It was a good speech, but not the most memorable one of the day. One of the students, Bora, read a speech she'd written in English. She was in tears before she was done.

I called Vita from the airport to say good-bye. That's when I learned the celebration was on Albanian television, several times. Yep, one of those moments.
