GRADEC....I strolled Tkalciceva (the café street), also unpronounceable, and then climbed steep stairs to what looked like an interesting area. As it turned out, I was in the second of the old cities, Gradec. It was old elegance with Baroque mansions. I wandered around to find my third mass of the morning, this time inside the Stone Gate. It was a small section of the old wall that once protected medieval Gradec. But, there were devout, pews, and a statue of Mary. What good Catholic needs anything else? I also found the funicular on my way down. It would have been better to use it on the way up the hill, but I hadn't found it earlier. It was a pleasant little ride. MARTIN |
