CASSIS...I wanted to explore some of the Cote d'Azure, and summer wasn't the time to do that. Lines of tourists in equally long lines of cars clog those romantic winding lanes in numbers nobody ever imagined when they were first created. However, in October, the summer sun still lingered but most of the lines were a memory. It was the perfect time to explore.

I opted to stay away from Nice, Cannes and Saint Tropez on this go around. The little fishing port of Cassis gave me the flavor I wanted. And, there was just a touch of history and French culture too. Around the village are beautiful limestone cliffs and inlets. And, stone from the Cassis quarry was used for the base of the Statue of Liberty.
