Parliament.... One of Budapest's most beautiful sites, built to celebrate Hungary's 1000th birthday in 1896, was the Parliament building. Now, when you govern a big chunk of Eastern Europe, you need a big building. That was then and this is now, when the legislature finds itself only needing one eighth of the building. Some architecture-type people are offended that a Neo Gothic building like this was built with a Renaissance dome on top. I didn't let it bother me. I loved this building inside and out. Yep, you can take a tour inside. Get there early, though. Lines are long and the guards only let one person at a time go inside to purchase tickets. Maddening! |
