Reynisfjara. ..There were several options for the one day I had free for a day trip. Whale and puffin watching (what I most wanted to do) is a summer activity. The Golden Circle (that nearly everyone does) includes a dip in hot thermal water (which didn’t attract me at all). I opted for a drive along the southern shore to a picturesque village of Vit. There was no choice for me. It was so very charming!
November is the right time of year to see the Northern Whites. I’m glad I came when I did. But, if you are not dressed correctly, it is not the right time to do anything else in ICEland. And truth be told, I just was not warm enough. I was not prepared for ICEland as I wandered along the south coast. The wind pierced everything making it much colder than the -11 degrees Centigrade that the car thermometer indicated. And, I assure you that -11 degrees Centigrade is cold enough without bothering to consider wind chill factors.
Reynisfjara was scenic and incredible. Basalt columns jutted up along the cliffs and caves. The beach had stunning black sand. However, I took a few photos and then retreated into the warmth of a café. There were no other options. And as far as that picturesque village of Vit, well, I don't know what happened to it. I never saw it.
