..I didn't prepare for the trip. I knew nothing about
what there was to see. I journeyed with friends who always traveled
with a couple of guide books. I followed blindly and merrily.
was our hotel, and I didn't expect much for 50 Euros a night in Florence.
First impressions confirmed that when we walked into the ground floor
of the building. It looked like faded glory. However, everything changed
when the elevator stopped on the fourth floor at the Pension Pandini.
It is truly one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in.
My room had
such a view overlooking the Piazza della Repubblica. The hotel was
partially in the Roman-style triumphal arch that celebrated Florence's
time as Italy's capital. But, you don't come to Florence to stay in
your hotel room, no matter how beautiful. And, the hotel was so close
to delicious Italian food, winding cobblestone streets, ornate doorways,
and Italian leather shoes on sale. No, I didn't stay in my room.
