LA SAGRADA FAMILIA. .. In his later years, Gaudí became increasingly religious and considered his work on La Sagrada Familia to be his sacred mission. When asked why such intricate detail was put into the tops of the spires when nobody would be able to see it, Gaudí replied, "The angels will see them." No surprise that his contemporaries referred to him as "God's Architect". Gaudí died in 1926, hit by a tram, but the work continued into the 1930's until a little thing called the Spanish Civil War brought work to a halt in 1936. Anarchists burned and smashed everything they could in the temple. Work restarted in 1952.

Only time will tell if it really is done in 2022. There is an elevator ride up one of the towers. No matter how long the line, it needs to be taken. It provides a beautiful view of the city as well as a close-up of some of the construction. You can take the elevator back down, but I strongly advise walking it. In spite of human traffic jams in places, there are breath-taking photo opportunities that are totally missed by those opting for a lift.
