Kuku Village ..........The people at the U.S. Embassy in Fiji eventually realized that I was not the typical kind of American tourist who wanted sun, sand and expensive resorts. I was in search of a cultural experience. And, very fortunately for me, a connection was made to stay with the Nalawa family outside of the village of Kuku. It was the very best part of my Fijian experience.

Esekaia and Alena welcomed me into their home, family and community. They provided me with so much to remember (and write about) including People along my Path, Kava with the Kukus, Lovin' Lovo and Simi's Vasili. I was especially delighted with the lovo. They were equally horrified that I had to learn first-hand about "mile a minute". If you read that story, you might also be horrified.
