PUERTO AYORA .... LotI remembered this sleepy little town with a population of 1000, but that was a long time ago. Now the population is around 20,000 people not counting all the tourists. And, Puerto Ayora can no longer be called sleepy. It bustles with restaurants, internet cafes, and travel agencies.

When I first came to the Galapagos, I was told you could not stay on the island. You had to book your cruise in advance and you slept on your cruise ship. Many people still travel this way to the Galapagos Islands. However, if you have lots of time to travel, you can find a place in Puerto Ayora and then book a last minute cruise at a great savings.

If you come to Puerto Ayora, you probably will visit the Charles Darwin Foundation, swim at Tortuga Bay, and see lots of marine iguana. You should make it to the highlands around Santa Rosa and see my murals!

There are more tourist shops and bicycles than cars in Puerto Ayora.
Go for a swim and surf at Tortuga (Turtle) Bay
